This is an update on the Alabama Liberty Alliance.
We've received several inquiries regarding the progress of the Alabama Liberty Alliance. Until the officers can be voted on at the convention, Stephen Gordon is acting as interim chair for the ALA, Austin Wilkes as vice-chair and Shana Kluck as secretary. Tom Pearson and Carolynn Moore are offering legal counsel. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions regarding ALA, please contact Shana or Austin. The bylaws were approved at the last meeting and a committee was formed to plan a convention- tentatively set for late May. The committee is working to secure a place, set an agenda, recruit speakers, etc. for the convention. The Convention Committee includes Austin Wilkes, Shana Kluck, and Carolynn Moore.

Convention Overview:
Our purpose for having a Convention is multifaceted, we will be:
· Establishing ALA as a Viable Force on the Alabama Political Landscape
· Promoting ALA in the Media and Community
· Finalizing Organizational Structure and Bylaws
· Electing ALA leaders & Chartering Local Chapters
· Establishing a 2008/2009 Legislative Agenda
· Networking between likeminded groups/individuals
· Learning from high caliber speakers & having a little fun!
The 1st Annual ALA Convention will be held on a Friday & Saturday in Birmingham in Late May or June. Several dates are available and the precise date selected will depend on which Convention Center (we are in negotiations with multiple centers) we decide provides the best combination of resources and pricing for our organization. We are in negotiations with a few VERY HIGH CALIBER speakers for both the Friday Banquet and Saturday General Session. Expect to pay anywhere from $50-$100 for the Friday Banquet and significantly less for Saturday meals and speakers.
Our Convention Committee is in need of individuals who can help:
· Recruit speakers, both keynote and general
· Recruit convention sponsors (ex. AL LP, AL GOP, AL MPI, FTH, etc)
· Recruit VIP Attendees (elected officials, political/community leaders, etc)
· Raise start-up funding to help provide the required upfront down-payments
· Create a registration and payment system
· Market our event to groups outside of our base
· Assist in Convention Accounting (CPA Needed)
We are also looking for help:
· Designing and hosting a website
· Designing website graphics
· Designing a group logo
· Implementing a Web-based Convention Registration System
· Fundraising & Finding Donors
· Information regarding issues and candidates ALA should focus on
· Recruiting members
· Securing a large place for regular meetings (up to 100 individuals)
